BASILICA OF BOM JESUS IN GOA

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is located in Goa, India.

It is located 10 kilometers from the city of Panjim.

It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The church is located in Old Goa, which was the capital of Goa in the early days of Portuguese rule.

'Bom Jesus' is the name used for the infant Jesus.

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is more than 408 years old and is open to the public everyday.

The basilica is constructed in Portuguese style and the architecture is very beautiful.

The floor of the church is made of pure white marble, decorated with semi-precious stones.

The altar of the church is adorned elaborately and covered with gold.

This church is India’s first minor basilica, and is considered to be one of the best examples of decorative architecture in India.

This is one of the oldest churches in Goa, as well as in India.

The basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier.

The body of St. Francis Xavier is kept in a well-decorated casket.

It is said that the saint's body was as fresh as the day it was buried.

The remains of the saint still attract a huge number of devotees (Christian and non-Christian) from all over the world, especially during the public viewing of his body every ten years (last held in 2004).

The saint is said to have miraculous powers of healing.
